Media Access Control (address). Every single network device has a unique MAC address assigned during manufacture. It is often found on the base or equipment label of a device such as computer, camera, switch, router. etc., and looks like this 12:34:56:78:AB.
The addressing system uses base 16 (Hexadecimal) numbering which includes the numbers 0-9 and letters A-E
When a device is connected to a network DHCP assigns an IP address to the MAC device. This is then used to direct data to the device that requested it.
IP addresses for a device can change but the MAC address does not.
